This is a good day for Renault Trucks Defense (RTD) with the announcement by French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian that Kuwait is to order 300 Sherpa vehicles for €270m coming sharp on the heels of an earlier one that RTD had won the VLTP NP contract.

During my visit last August to Kuwait, I discussed with my counterpart the contract for the deliver of 300 Sherpa vehicles for €270m (…) This was confirmed by the minister in a phonecall the day before yesterday,” Le Drian said during a visit to an RTD manufacturing site at Fourchambault in central France.

In October 2015 Kuwait had announced its intention to buy a further 120 Sherpa Lights after having bought a similar quantity of Sherpa Scouts for its National Guard.

The Sherpa is a family of 11-tonne light tactical vehicles. Air-transportable by A400M and C-130, the Sherpa Light troop transport version can carry up to 10 people.
